Admittedly, none of the responses were outside of what I expected and there certainly is a good mix. As I mentioned in an earlier remark I figured there would be A> people saying I should just accept her answer of “no” and B> people saying it’s a marriage and it’s fair to (not necessarily expect; there’s a difference) my wife would do something like this to make me happy. Despite posting what I thought was a lengthy OP, I realize that no one here knows me, knows my wife or knows anything beyond what I posted. Therefore it’s hard to make a completely informed, unbiased response. I know I came off as some kind of asshole to a lot of you, which is fine and certainly expected. Having read all of the responses…some of which were great and others were either way off base or perhaps just hard to accept because of the truth they contained, I have the following couple of thoughts: 1> A couple of people suggested couples counseling. We did go through counseling in *** to iron out some rough spots in our marriage. Nothing big, we just both felt like we were not as close in our marriage as we could be and wanted to work on some things. One thing that was discussed was our sex life. story short, the counselor suggested a compromise, which we agreed to: My wife would work toward having sex with me twice a week and I would agree to never ask for oral sex again. My wife did say at that time that it could/would happen…just that she didn’t want me asking for it. Was this good counseling or bad counseling? I don’t know and that’s not the point now. The point is I did “break the rule” about never asking for oral sex again by bringing up the other night. Given the feedback here, I agree my approach was accusatory and I should have handled it better. However, one of the other things we discussed in counseling was my wife’s for me to communicate more openly and often with her (what wife doesn’t want that?). That’s something I’ve had to work on my entire life and I continue to work on. At the risk of “breaking the rule” the other night, I felt like this was important enough to me to bring it up after never speaking of it for 3+ years.
